A little less file. A lot less fuss.

Split Happens.

Big file. Small pieces. Same bytes.

Split any file into manageable .part files, then put it back together. Nothing leaves your device.

Split by

MB = 1,000,000 bytes. MiB = 1,048,576 bytes. The last part may be smaller.

How does it work?

Choose a file and set a maximum part size or an exact number of pieces. Download the numbered parts and send them however you like. To restore the file, open Join parts and select the complete set.

Names look like archive.zip.1-4.part: part 1 of 4. Keep the names unchanged. These are raw binary chunks, not separate ZIP archives, and must be joined in order. Your original file stays untouched.

Splitting and joining happen entirely on your device. There are no file uploads, accounts or extra downloads to install. Folder saving appears where your browser supports it; individual downloads work without it.

About Split Happens

A file splitter and joiner for files that are too big to send in one go. Choose a maximum size per part, such as 25 MB for an email attachment, or an exact number of parts, and download the numbered pieces. The recipient opens the same tool, selects all the parts, and gets the original file back, byte for byte.

Large files are read in chunks, so it copes with files well beyond what a browser could hold in memory, and you can download the parts one at a time or all together as a ZIP.

Everything happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so it is as private as the file was before you split it.

How to use it

  1. Choose a file, then set a maximum part size or an exact number of parts.
  2. Download the numbered .part files, individually or as a ZIP.
  3. To rebuild, open Join parts, select the complete set and save the joined file.

Questions

Can I open a .part file on its own?

No. Each part is a raw slice of the original, not a separate file. Join the full set to get something you can open.

Is there a maximum file size?

The file is read in pieces, so very large files work. The practical limit is your device's free storage for the parts you download and, when joining, for the rebuilt file.

Do the parts have to be joined in order?

Select them in any order. The tool reads the part number from each file name and joins them correctly, as long as the names are unchanged.

Is this the same as a ZIP archive?

No. A ZIP compresses files; this splits one file into equal pieces without changing its contents. If you need compression as well, zip the file first and split the ZIP.
