This week. Queue up the playlist.

You get a link. Share it anywhere. The page counts down in each viewer’s own time zone, and the link preview is a picture of the countdown made fresh each time it is fetched.

How does it work?

The whole countdown lives in the link: the title, the moment, the emoji and the colours. Nothing is saved on this site, so there is nothing to delete and no account to make. If you lose the link, make another one.

When you paste the link into a chat, the app asks this site for a preview picture. The picture is drawn at that moment with the time left on it, so it is right when it is sent. Some apps play the animated version and watch the seconds tick; others show a still.

Times are shown in whoever is looking’s own time zone. The preview picture uses UK time.

About Countdown Maker

A countdown maker for anything worth counting down to: a holiday, a birthday, a gig, a wedding, payday, the end of the working week or just going to the shops. Give it a title, choose an emoji and a background, pick the moment, and you get a link.

Open the link and the countdown runs live, in each viewer's own time zone, with a line of commentary that changes as the moment gets closer and a shower of confetti when it arrives. Paste the link into WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, Slack or Messages and the preview is a picture of the countdown, drawn with the time left when it was sent. Some apps even play it as a short animation.

The whole countdown lives in the link itself, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing stored on this site.

How to use it

  1. Type what you are counting down to and pick the date and time, or use a quick pick like Friday 5pm or Christmas.
  2. Choose an emoji and a theme. The preview updates as you go.
  3. Create the countdown, then share the link from the page.

Questions

Do people in other time zones see the right time?

Yes. The moment is stored as a point in time, so everyone sees the same countdown, shown in their own local time.

Why does the link preview show a different number of seconds?

The preview is a picture drawn when the chat app fetched the link, so it shows the time left at that moment. Open the link for the live countdown.

Can I edit a countdown after sharing it?

The countdown is the link, so editing makes a new link. Use Edit this one to start from the existing details. The old link keeps working.

Is there a limit on how far ahead I can count down?

Any date up to the year 2100. Dates in the past work too, and show how long ago the moment was.
